Montreal Impact News Release
MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact (0-3-2) and the Charleston Battery (2-0-4) tied 0-0, Friday, in front of 12,180 spectators, at Saputo Stadium, in Marc Dos Santos' first game as head coach of the team.
"The Montreal Impact is a team that plays well defensively at home and this is what we did this evening by not conceding a single goal," said Marc Dos Santos. "We were in control for a good part of the game and this was favourable for us tonight. It is a satisfying result following a good effort from the entire team. We will continue working every day to get our identity back."
"It was difficult this evening, after an emotional loss in Toronto on Wednesday," said goalkeeper Matt Jordan, who registered his second shutout, after facing ten shots. "We should be proud because it was a difficult game. I believe in this team and in the organization and I know that we will bounce back and continue to improve."
"We expect to win every home game, but there is no game that is easy, and we need to collect all the points that we can," noted central defender Cédric Joqueviel, who played all 90 minutes of the game. "Our confidence will come back with good performances like tonight's."
The Impact dominated 13-5 in corners, obtaining good scoring chances throughout the game.
Defender Simon Gatti and midfielder Félix Brillant started their first game of the season. For Gatti, it was also his 50th career game as a starter with the Impact.
For the second time this season, the two teams tied 0-0. In its first game of the season, April 18, the Impact had also registered a point in Charleston. Both teams will match up once more at Saputo Stadium, on July 5.
The Impact will play a second game in less than 48 hours, Sunday, against the Austin Aztex, at Saputo Stadium at 3:30 pm (Radio-Canada, CKAC Sports, THE TEAM 990, USLlive.com).
