Montreal Impact News Release
SHERBROOKE - The Montreal Impact will be back at Sherbrooke University Stadium on Sunday, July 8, for a fourth consecutive year.
Still undefeated in Sherbrooke, the Impact will face the Carolina RailHawks in a United Soccer Leagues First Division regular-season match-up. The atmosphere should be highly charged as both teams are close in the USL standings.
With almost 6,500 tickets already sold 10 days before the event, Jean-Pierre Boucher, Assistant Director of Sherbrooke University's Sport and Physical Activity Department, notes that soccer is a vibrant sport in the Estrie region.
"Since the beginning of this great adventure, Sherbrooke citizens have always shown support for this event," says Jean-Pierre Boucher. "It's a unique occasion to see high calibre soccer. The partnership with the Impact has always been excellent and we would like to host the team again next year."
"We are glad to be back in Sherbrooke," said Impact defender Jason DiTullio. "We have always received a warm welcome here from the fans. We always had great results and we hope to continue our winning streak this year."
The event's honourary chairman will be Sherbrooke native coach and FIFA member Sylvie Béliveau. This soccer devotee has been involved in the development of soccer first on the local scene, and then taking on the provincial, national and international scenes.
Last year, on August 27, 2006, the Impact had shut out the Virginia Beach Mariners 2-0 at Sherbrooke University Stadium. Despite the poor weather, 6,532 fans attended that game and 9,519 spectators were part of the event in 2005. In three years, more than 25, 000 people showed up to cheer the Impact in Sherbrooke.
Tickets for the Impact game can be purchased at the ticket office of Sherbrooke University's Cultural Centre or by phone at 819-820-1000. Tickets will also be available at the stadium ticket office starting at 1 pm on game day.
