MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact plays its fifth game of the season, Saturday at 2:30pm, against the Carolina RailHawks at Saputo Stadium (Radio-Canada, CKAC Sports, THE TEAM 990, radio-canada.ca/sports).
In its last NASL game, the Impact won 5-0 against FC Edmonton, on May 1 at Foote Field. So far this season, the Impact has allowed only three goals.
¬ÅI think good teams are built starting from the back, and our team has allowed the least goals in the NASL so far, ¬Â said Impact head coach Marc Dos Santos. ¬ÅWhen you do a good job defending your zone, you grow and then position yourself into scoring opportunities. ¬Â
Meanwhile, the Impact played two games against Major League Soccer clubs. Montreal tied the Vancouver Whitecaps FC 1-1, on May 4, in the Canadian championship, and then shut out the New York Red Bulls 1-0, Wednesday, at Saputo Stadium.
In its last game versus Carolina, on April 16, the Impact lost 2-1 at WakeMed Soccer Park, in Cary.
Carolina is currently ranked first in the NASL standings with four wins, one loss and one tie for a total of 15 points.
The RailHawks have not lost in their last five games, after losing 2-1 the first game of the season against Puerto Rico, on April 9. In their last game, the RailHawks won 4-2 against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers on Wednesday night.
¬ÅCarolina is one of the three best teams in the league, ¬Â added Dos Santos. ¬ÅI think there are lot of similarities, principles and values shared by both clubs. It will be a war on Saturday. There will be a lot of interesting duels on the field and we will see a highly competitive game. ¬Â
In last year ¬â¢s playoff semi-final, the Impact lost 2-1 on aggregates after a matchup in Carolina
¬ÅI ¬â¢m expecting a similar battle to what it was last year between these teams, obviously there is a big rivalry, ¬Â said midfielder Amir Lowery, who played for the RailHawks in 2010. ¬ÅThis game means a lot for us and we want to protect our field. Our win against New York and the game in Vancouver are definitely a confidence boost going forward. ¬Â
Defenders Zurab Tsiskaridze, Richard Pelletier and Nevio Pizzolitto, as well as midfielder Hassoun Camara and goalkeeper Bill Gaudette will not play Saturday.
Excellent tickets for this game are still available through Admission Network (
