MASCOUCHE - Loyal to its commitment to education and youth, the Montreal Impact renewed its partnership with several greater Montreal school boards for a 6th consecutive year, through the intervention program to stay in school called "All The Way with the Impact."
Once again, the Impact will expand its presence with the announcement of a 9th partner that will benefit from the program that aims to introduce the sports-related values of perseverance and achievement.
La Commission scolaire des Affluents (CSA) has now joined four other francophone school boards already participating in this project: Commission scolaire de Montréal (CSDM), Commission scolaire Pointe-de-l'Ile, Commission scolaire Marie-Victorin and Fédération des établissements d'enseignements privés (FEEP).
The CSA regroups over 34,000 students and employs some 5,000 people in 67 educational institutions, covering territories in the regional municipalities of l'Assomption and Les Moulins.
In the Anglophone sector, the English Montreal School Board (EMSB), the Sir Wilfred Laurier School Board, the Lester B. Pearson School Board and the Riverside School Board will all take apart in the 2011 program that will see players visiting their schools.
The official launch of the CSA tour took place on Monday at Le Prélude High School, in Mascouche, with forward Ali Gerba and defender Philippe Billy, as well as Yves St-Denis, CSA president, Réjean Levasseur, Le Prélude director, and John Di Terlizzi, vice-president of sales with the Montreal Impact.
Throughout the school year, players and coaches from the Montreal Impact will visit elementary and high schools within the partnership's network, in order to help leave an impression upon the students on the importance of education, as well as the values of perseverance and self-confidence.
"With all the different sporting options available within our schools, the Comission scolaire des Affluents has always promoted physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. This new partnership with the Montreal Impact demonstrates our willingness to find the best people to help promote sports and the value of perseverance within our student body of over 34,000 youth attending our schools," said Yves St-Denis, CSA president.
"As a professional soccer club, one of our missions within the community is to help students achieve in their studies and to give them the tools to reach their objectives," said Impact vice-president of sales John Di Terlizzi. "Our players are good examples of hard work and perseverance. Their messages are very well-received by the students because they can relate to our players. Despite some difficult times along the way, our players were able to overcome and reach their goals as professional soccer players."
As a compliment to the in-school program, students will be given tickets to a 2011 game at Saputo Stadium. Each school board will have the opportunity to attend a regular season game.
During each dedicated game day, the Impact will acknowledge some achievements of students in attendance with a special presentation before kick-off. Students from the CSA and all the other partners who demonstrate the highest standards both athletically and academically will be awarded Tony Licursi bursaries, named in honour of the former Montreal Impact statistician, who passed away in 2005 and who was very dedicated to youth-related causes.
