Illinois Piasa News Release
Pontoon Beach, IL - Illinois Piasa's open tryouts this past Saturday and Sunday went off without a hitch and marked the start of Piasa's quest to win three National Championships for the 2013-14 season: the Professional Arena Soccer League's Ron Newman Cup, the US Arena Open Cup Championship, and the Premier Arena Soccer League's National Championship. Head Coach Doug Montroy is very happy with the quality of the players that turned out and added that there are some other players in the area that are on the team's radar to sign.
"I was excited to see so many quality players and can't wait to start molding them into a team and getting them ready for what lies ahead," said Montroy. "Matt and I hope to start signing players as soon as this week. There will be some exciting announcements in the weeks to come and our fans can expect a Piasa that will be able to compete with the best teams in the country."
Selections for the Pro Training Camp have been made and will be posted at 12:00 pm, today, August 26, on the team's Facebook page, www.Facebook.com/IllinoisPiasa, and will also be posted at 2:00 pm on the team's website, www.IllinoisPiasa.com. The players that were not selected for the Pro Training Camp will be invited to work out with Piasa's reserve team, which has been on hiatus since the 2011-12 season, and will compete in the Premier Arena Soccer League, an amateur division below the pro league.
Piasa will train twice a week over the next several weeks leading into the Pro Training Camp beginning the week of September 23 and going through October 6. The team will train 8 times over that 14 day period to prepare to open the PASL season the first week of November.
