Illinois Piasa Sign Brothers Chris and John Anzalone

Pontoon Beach, IL, 9/19/13 - Illinois Piasa is proud to announce the signing of brothers Chris and John Anzalone for the 2013-14 PASL season.

Younger brother Chris Anzalone played youth soccer for Tony Glavin Soccer Club. Chris played high school soccer for Fort Zumwalt South where he was named 1st Team All-Conference and 2nd Team All-State in 2006. He also played in the State All-Star Game that same year. After high school he went on to play four years at SIUE earning Missouri Valley Conference 1st Team All-Conference honors. Chris has played for the St. Louis Lions (PDL), Swanner United (PASL-Premier), the St. Louis Illusion (PASL), Piasa FC (PASL-Premier), and Illinois Piasa (PASL).

Chris is looking forward to the PASL season and is happy to be returning to Piasa. He had this to say, "I'm really excited about this new season and all that comes with it. We are going to have a very deep and versatile team that will turn some heads."

"Chris is a strong box-to-box midfielder with good technical ability. He is a tireless worker who has really dedicated himself to increasing his physical strength which will make him a force indoors. Chris reads the game well and utilizes excellent off the ball movement. We are very happy to have him back with Piasa," Head Coach Montroy said of the signing.

Older brother John Anzalone also played youth soccer for Tony Glavin Soccer Club. He was also a standout at Fort Zumwalt South before going on to play two seasons of college soccer for the SIUE Cougars. John is a veteran of the PASL having played for Swanner United (PASL-Premier), the St. Louis Illusion (PASL), Piasa FC (PASL-Premier), and Illinois Piasa (PASL), in the past.

When asked about signing John Anzalone, Coach Montroy said, "John reads the game very well and is very comfortable on the ball. He makes good decisions and plays with poise. He adds a nice veteran presence to our backline and is superb at kick starting our transition game."

Illinois Piasa opens the 2013-14 PASL season at home on November 1 against the expansion team Tulsa Revolution. Kickoff is 7:35 pm at The Field Sports Complex in Pontoon Beach, Illinois. Tickets are available at www.IllinoisPiasa.com/tickets/ or by calling 618-334-5700.
