IIHL Welcomes Ohio Valley Ice Cats

Published on September 18, 2003 under International Independent Hockey League (IIHL) News Release

The International Independent Hockey League (IIHL) officially welcomed the Ohio Valley Ice Cats to its lineup today for the 2003-04 season of pro hockey action.

The Ice Cats logo and home schedule was revealed at a special press conference today for media members and local dignitaries at the Ameri-Host Inn & Suites in Athens. Home games will be played on mostly Friday nights and Saturday nights at Bird Arena on the campus of Ohio University. The Ice Cats will also have a Tuesday matinee during the holiday vacation break when local elementary students and middle school students can purchase tickets for themselves at $1 each when buying at least one adult ticket at full price as a Christmas present.

Ticket prices for adults will range from $7.50 for single game admission to $7 on season ticket packages. Front Row Club seats are priced at $10 per ticket and include admission between periods to the hospitality suite overlooking the ice surface. VIP seating in the hospitality suite will cost $15 per ticket. The Ice Cats are charging $6 for single game student tickets. Season tickets for students are priced at $5 per game for $100 total.

Special "6-Pack Plans" for Ohio University students can get them into the "Gang Green" section for $24 to see 6 games of their choice at only $4 each. Season tickets for the "Gang Green" section are only $3.85 per game when paying $76.95 for a season pass. Admission to the "Gang Green" section requires a valid student ID and a special Ice Cats Green Towel.

Family Advantage Marketing LLC holds the majority ownership position in the new pro franchise, which will also have two local partners who are well known to Ohio University sports fans. Legal agreements are expected to be signed next week to finalize the partnership. Family Advantage Marketing is a Florida-based sports consulting group aiming to supply leadership for new low-level "feeder system" leagues in pro baseball, indoor football and pro hockey.

One of the first players expected to be signed is Shaun Peet, who completed a four-year baseball career last spring at Ohio University. He was a star in the Ontario Hockey League before accepting a baseball scholarship and is on campus completing his degree this year. Peet played 67 games in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), which is part of the 54-team Major Junior system for top 20-&-under players within the Canadian Hockey League --- the leading supplier of draft choices every year to the National Hockey League. Peet was ineligible for Ohio University's college hockey club because he played in the OHL during high school.

Peet has been playing in a local men's league during his baseball career and often works out with the college players to keep his hockey skills sharp. A photo opportunity can be arranged with Peet by contacting Marcus Marazon at Bird Arena. Marazon is faculty advisor for the Ohio University Bobcats hockey club and was on hand at the press conference to introduce the new franchise.
