
IHL Announces Weekly Honors

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Muskegon right wing Luke Stauffacher has been named the Pepsi IHL Player of the Week, Kalamazoo center Tommy Lange has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week and Fort Wayne goaltender Nick Boucher has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 22nd, 2009.
Stauffacher finished the week posting six points in four games played. He scored four goals and added two helpers to his totals, riding a three-game point streak into Week 24. He notched in his first shorthanded goal of the season Friday in a 5-0 win over Flint. Stauffacher had two back-to-back multi-point games, notching in a total of three points Friday vs. Flint and two more the following night in a 3-2 shootout win over Port Huron. The 28-year-old native of Madison, Wisconsin currently leads the Lumberjacks in goals scored with 35. He is also ranked third on the Muskegon roster in scoring with 65 points (35g, 30a).
Other players nominated for the Pepsi IHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington center Jon Booras, Fort Wayne center Leo Thomas, Kalamazoo right wing Justin Cross and Port Huron center Bryan Smolinski.
Lange wrapped up Week 23 of his rookie season scoring five goals in four games played. He notched in two goals on the K-Wings man advantage, the first on Tuesday in a 7-4 loss to Muskegon and the second in a 4-3 win Friday in Bloomington. Lange came out strong Saturday, scoring another two goals to help propel the K-Wings to a 7-6 win over Flint. Sunday, the rookie center capped off the week with another goal, extending his goal streak to six games, which ties an IHL high.. The 21-year-old St. Louis, Missouri native currently leads all IHL rookies in goals scored with 25. Lange also is riding an eight-game point streak. In those eight games, he has recorded seven goals and two assists.
Other players nominated for the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington defenseman Russ Smith, Flint forward Maxime Lincourt, Fort Wayne center Rick Varone and Muskegon forward/defenseman Adam Bartholomay.
Boucher earns the weekly honor for the third time this season. He posted a 3-0-0-1 record for the week, playing just over 245 minutes in four starts. He only allowed five goals against, giving him a stellar 1.22 goals against average and .966 save percentage for the week. Boucher recorded his second shutout of the season, turning aside all 25 shots he faced in a 3-0 win Saturday in Bloomington. The 28-year-old native of Cobble Hill, British Columbia currently leads all IHL goaltenders in goals against average (2.51), save percentage (.918) and minutes played (2700:45) while being second in wins with 24. Boucher is also riding a seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-0-1).
Other players nominated for the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Jason Wolfe, Kalamazoo's Jason Tapp, Muskegon's Clayton Pool and Port Huron's Larry Sterling.
