IFL's Outlaws produce newest NFL talent
December 3, 2008 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
Billings, MT: The Billings Outlaws of the Indoor Football League announced the promotion of defensive back Travonti Johnson to the NFL's reigning Super Bowl Champion New York Giants yesterday. At 6'2" and 190 lbs, the speedy defender caught the eye of the Giants in 2007 where he spent the majority of the pre-season in a New York uniform before being released with a quadriceps injury. Johnson found his way to Billings for the 2008 season where he lead the teams defense and the league with 12 interceptions and returned three kickoffs for touchdowns in his first season of indoor football.
The Giants are preparing for the NFL playoffs with this acquisition and it is a real feather in the cap of the IFL that they chose Johnson. "I am so proud of our Billings franchise and Travonti for this achievement. One of our primary goals in the IFL is assist in the development of our players and enable them opportunities like this one. We wish him the greatest success and hope to be sending additional players on the same path very soon.", explained IFL commissioner Tommy Benizio.
Travonti is just the latest in a growing number of players that have played for IFL teams that are now in either the Canadian Football League, Arena Football League, or the National Football League. The IFL will compete with 19 teams in the 2009 season and has two additional teams along with several expansion possibilities for play in 2010.
2009 SCHEDULE: The league anticipates the release of the 2009 schedule over the coming days as it works to finalize just a few games. Fans can expect to see many new as well as old rivalries play out on the 50-Yard turf across America starting this March.
