IFL Week Twelve Recap

Published on June 7, 2023 under Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

Week 12 featured some of the best games of the year. That seems to be the case every week. The parity in the IFL is obvious and the playoff picture is crowded. The next six weeks are going to be fun.

Tucson kicked off week 12 by coming back from a 13-point first quarter deficit to upset Vegas and Daquan Neal. Tucson, who had an inconsistent first half of the season, was able to outscore the Knight Hawks 42-28 in the final three quarters. That included a big touchdown run by Mike Jones with just 26 seconds left. Vegas then missed a 25-yard field goal to seal a 42-41 victory for the Sugar Skulls.

Massachusetts took down Frisco as the Fighters suffered just their second loss of the season. Anthony Russo threw for 201 yards and eight touchdowns. The game was a tight back and forth battle through the first three quarters. Two interceptions by the Pirates defense in the fourth quarter lead to 21 Massachusetts points. The Fighters lost by their largest margin of the season as they dropped a 72-58 contest.

Green Bay finds themselves firmly in the playoff race after a dominating win over Iowa. The Blizzard defense held the Barnstormers to just 17 points in the game. Iowa started the scoring going up 3-0 after their first possession. Green Bay then outscored Iowa 43-14 the rest of the way.

Bay Area is one of the hottest teams in the league. They've now won three straight games against playoff contenders. Justin Rankin's 100 yards on the ground and four touchdowns helped control the game against Duke City. They carried just a three-point lead into the final quarter, but a defensive shutout in the fourth quarter helped them earn the 69-52 win.

Arizona at Northern Arizona was an incredible game. Two rivals throwing everything they have at each other for more than four quarters. A double-overtime thriller that saw the Rattlers walk away as victors. Arizona is healthy and it shows. They are 3-1 since the return of Drew Powell and look like a championship contender. The Wranglers have now dropped three straight games.

The week concluded with San Diego squeaking by Tulsa. It was a quarterback duel as Tulsa's Andre Sale threw for 283 yards and San Diego's Nate Davis threw for 239. In the end, Davis and the Strike Force won the battle as they edged Tulsa by just one point in a 56-55 win. Tulsa was in position for an 18-yard game winning field goal, but it was pushed wide right. Tulsa has five losses on the season by less than one score.

Week 13 of the IFL season sees all 14 teams in action. One game on Friday, four on Saturday and two on Sunday. For all the details and complete schedule go to www.GoIFL.com.
