IFL Indoor Football League

IFL Week Seventeen Preview

July 7, 2023 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

As we enter the final two weeks of the 2023 IFL season, there are too many playoff scenarios to layout. One thing we do know, there is still a lot to be determined and the next few days will help clarify the 2023 IFL playoff picture.

Sioux Falls had an opportunity to all but slam the door on the playoffs last week. Instead, they were dismantled by Frisco. Green Bay followed by defeating Tulsa and here we are. Sioux Falls and Green Bay are tied in overall record, but the Storm have a one game lead in conference play. This week, the Storm look to give themselves some breathing room against Iowa with just one week to go. Iowa has won just three games, but they could play spoiler to the Storm's season with a big win on Saturday. A Storm win coupled with a Green Bay loss punches their postseason ticket.

Green Bay takes on Quad City as they look to take over the fourth and final playoff spot. They'll have to go through E.J. Hilliard and the Quad City Steamwheelers. For Green Bay to stay alive, they must win or they and Sioux Falls both must lose. For Quad City, they're trying to overtake the two seed as well as a home playoff game in the East. This game carries heavy implications for both teams.

For Tucson, it's win and you're in. With a win, they can punch their ticket into the playoffs. Couple a win with a Bay Area loss and suddenly the Sugar Skulls have a shot at the two seed. But Duke City isn't going to go down without a fight. They are fighting for their playoff lives. A Gladiators loss and they are eliminated. Duke City would need some help to earn a playoff spot, but first they would need to take down Tucson.

Massachusetts is looking to cement themselves as the No. 2 seed in the East, but to do that they'll need to take down Northern Arizona. There are multiple scenarios for the Wranglers to clinch a playoff berth this weekend. Losses by San Diego and Duke City would be enough. But a win over Massachusetts would be great for late season momentum.

The Strike Force need a win over Bay Area to keep themselves in the playoff picture. They'll be leaning on Nate Davis to help them take down a very good Bay Area team. Bay Area is one of two teams to beat Frisco, and the only team in the league with wins over Frisco and Arizona, the No. 1 seeds in each conference. But Nate Davis has thrown for nearly 1,800 yards and 40 touchdowns and will look to keep the Strike Force relevant. Bay Area would clinch a home playoff game with a win.
