The Indoor Football League (IFL) is proud to announce the Vidswap.com Players of the Week for Week 2 of the 2017 IFL season.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK : Verlon Reed (QB, Salt Lake Screaming Eagles)

The Salt Lake Screaming Eagles earned their first-ever victory Sunday and in came in dramatic fashion with the help of last minute heroics from QB Verlon Reed. Down six points to the Colorado Crush, Reed delivered a 15-yard pass to WR Devin Mahina with just seven seconds left to send the game into overtime. Once in overtime, Reed continued his stellar play as he responded to a Colorado touchdown with a four-yard pass to Zavier Steward. The Screaming Eagles, however, were not content to continue playing in overtime as Reed and the Screaming Eagles converted a dramatic two-point conversion to win the game outright over the Crush 42-41.

Reed finished the game completing 25 of 34 passes for 211 yards and five passing touchdowns. He also led the team in rushing with 61 yards. Reed has quickly established himself in the IFL as he has thrown for 11 touchdowns in his first two games. The Screaming Eagles are on a bye week in Week 3 before traveling in Week 4 to take on Spokane Empire.

Honorable Mention: Melvin German III (WR, Sioux Falls Storm), Tyron Laughinghouse (WR, Wichita Falls Nighthawks), Charles McCullum (QB, Wichita Falls Nighthawks), TreParmalee (WR, Cedar Rapids Titans)

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK : Robert Brown (DB, Spokane Empire)

The defending Intense Conference Champions Spokane Empire picked up where they left off last season, with a win at home. The Empire defeated the Green Bay Blizzard 34-31 in Spokane's 2017 home opener in a game full of exciting plays. In a back-and-forth game through three quarters it was Empire DB Robert Brown's stellar play that proved to be a big difference in the final score. At the start of the fourth quarter Brown intercepted a Green Bay pass and then weaved his way back 39 yards for a touchdown giving the Empire a lead they would not relinquish. The 2016 First Team All-IFL DB helped lock down the Blizzard's high-octane passing attack as the team only allowed 169 total passing yards. Brown and the Spokane defense are currently ranked second in the IFL allowing only 213 yards per game. Brown finished the game with two tackles, a pass breakup and the interception return for touchdown. The Empire travel to face the Wichita Falls Nighthawks in Week 3.

Honorable Mention: Manny Asprilla (DB, Green Bay Blizzard), Matt Goldsmith (DB, Iowa Barnstormers), Derrick Morgan (DB, Colorado Crush), Trey Wafford (DB, Nebraska Danger).

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tyler Williams (RB/KR, Wichita Falls Nighthawks)

After defeating the Nebraska Danger 65-48 in Week 2, the Wichita Falls Nighthawks are one of only two 2-0 teams to begin the season and sport the number one ranked scoring offense in the IFL (66.5 ppg). A big part of the ranking is the contribution of RB/KR Tyler Williams. Williams accounted for 239 all-purpose yards in the Nighthawks' Week 2 victory over the Danger, the most in the IFL this season and fourth-most over the last two seasons. In the fourth quarter against the Danger, Williams broke a 57 yard kickoff return for a touchdown en route to 182 total kickoff return yards. The Nighthawks speedster finished the night with four total touchdowns from a variety of different ways: running, receiving, kickoff return and fumble return. Williams and the Nighthawks host the Spokane Empire in a matchup of undefeated teams in Week 3.
