IFL Week 1 Players of the Week Announced

February 27, 2019 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

The Indoor Football League (IFL) is proud to announce the Vidswap.com Players of the Week for Week 1 of the 2019 IFL season.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tommy Armstrong (QB, Nebraska Danger)

It was a shining debut for Nebraska Danger QB Tommy Armstrong. The former Nebraska Cornhusker helped the Danger (1-0) start the 2019 season off on the right track as they took down the Bismarck Bucks 66-44 in Week 1. Armstrong, who owns most of the Cornhuskers career passing records, threw for 158 yards, four touchdowns and rushed for one more in the Danger's victory. Late in the game, Armstrong helped provide one of the most exciting plays in Week 1 as he found WR Tevaris McCormick for a 48 yard strike late in the game. The 48 yard pass will stand as one of the longest passes in the IFL this season. Armstrong will look to lead the Danger to victory again as Nebraska heads on the road to face the Green Bay Blizzard in Week 2.

Honorable Mention: Jabre Lolley (RB, Arizona Rattlers), John Gibbs (QB, Bismarck Bucks), Mike Tatum (WR, Bismarck Bucks), Marquel Wade (WR, Cedar Rapids River Kings), Marques Rodgers (WR, San Diego Strike Force)

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Joshua Gordon (DL, Arizona Rattlers)

The Arizona Rattlers (1-0) put on a dominating defensive performance in Week 1, taking down the Green Bay Blizzard 51-21. Key to the performance was DL Joshua Gordon. A First Team All-IFL Defensive Lineman last season, Gordon picked up right where he left off last season. Gordon helped the Rattlers score their first points of the season as he sacked Blizzard QB Justin Billiot for a safety. He then added two more sacks later in the game, ending with three on the night. Currently leading the IFL in sacks, Gordon will look to up his total in Week 2 as the Arizona Rattlers travel to face the Cedar Rapids River Kings.

Honorable Mention: Marques Gollman (DB, Green Bay Blizzard), Lavarious Varnado (DB, Nebraska Danger), Syvon Lowery (DL, Nebraska Danger), Everett Nicholas V (DB, Quad City Steamwheelers) ,Charles Williams (DL, Sioux Falls Storm)

In a game much closer than expected, K Miles Bergner converted a 33 yard field goal with no time remaining to give the Storm the narrow 47-44 victory over the Cedar Rapids River Kings in Week 1. One of the IFL leaders in point scored last season, Bergner again proved to be an effective weapon for the Storm as he converted four field goals (31,14,17,33) and was a perfect five of five on extra points. Bergner finished his night with 17 total points and his four field goals were the most made in an IFL game since June 3, 2017. The Sioux Falls Storm enjoy a bye week in Week 2 before traveling to face the Nebraska Danger in Week 3.
