IFL Players of the Week Announced
June 4, 2013 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
Richmond, VA - The Indoor Football League (IFL) is proud to announce the Week 16 Vidswap.com Players of the Week.
Offensive Players of the Week: Dennis Kennedy (RB, Colorado Ice)
In just his second game with the Colorado Ice, running back Dennis Kennedy earned Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in a 63-26 victory over the Texas Revolution. Kennedy (5'10, 210, Akron) registered 21 carries for 117 yards and 4 touchdowns. The biggest play of the game came in the 1st quarter. Kennedy took a pitch from QB Willie Copeland, making a few Revolution defenders miss at the line of scrimmage, then out raced the rest of the defense down the left dasher boards for a 45 yard score. No stranger to postseason success, Kennedy was a main stay during back-to-back Intense Conference Championship for the Tri-Cities Fever ('11-'12). The Ice hope his fresh legs and veteran leadership will guide the Ice to similar postseason success.
Defensive Player of the Week: Ameer Ismail (LB, Chicago Slaughter)
For the second time this season, Ameer Ismail (6'2, 240, Western Michigan) earns Defensive Player of the Week honors (Week 5). The Slaughter kept their playoff hopes alive with a thrilling 52-51 victory over the Green Bay Blizzard. The reigning Co-Defensive Player of the Year filled up the stat sheet, tallying 10 tackles (1 for loss), 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 pass break up. The Slaughter are on a bye this week but will return to action in the final week of the season for another matchup with the Blizzard. Chicago needs a win over Green Bay as well as losses by the Titans and/or Storm if they hope to avoid missing the postseason for the second consecutive season.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Troy Evans (KR, Wyoming Cavalry)
The 2013 season has been a struggle for the Wyoming Cavalry. However, despite a 1-11 record, the young Cavalry roster has been highly competitive, battling until the final whistle in every game. In another tightly contested matchup, the Cedar Rapids Titans outlasted the Cavalry, 67-55. A major bright for the Cavs this season has been rookie Wide Receiver/Kick Returner Troy Evans. Evans (5'9, 200, Marshall) turned in another impressive performance over the weekend, covering 131 yards on 8 kickoff returns in addition to hauling in 10 catches for 104 yards and a touchdown. For his efforts, Evans becomes the second Cavalry player to earn Special Teams honors this season (Paul Vassallo, Week 8). For the season, Evans ranks 2nd in the IFL in All-Purpose yards (1356), 1st in receptions (67), 8th in receiving yards (619), and 6th in receiving touchdowns (14). With Evans, Wyoming has a dynamic playmaker to build around for the future.
