IFL Players of the Week 6

April 9, 2008 - Intense Football League (Intense) News Release


Corpus Christi, Texas: The Intense Football League Office awarded the leagues outstanding Players of the Week, on Thursday. Corpus Christi Hammerheads Dustin Almond and Roy Salas, along with Odessa Roughneck Jimmy Conner were recognized for their outstanding play, this past weekend.

For his outstanding performance against in the win over the Fairbanks Grizzlies, 63-51, Corpus Christi Hammerheads Quarterback Dustin Almond was awarded the Offensive Player of the Week. Almond was 26 of 46 for 308 yards of passing. He also threw 8 Touchdown Passes, with the longest going for 40 yards. Almond leads his 3-0 Hammerheads into Frisco, this Sunday at 7:30, to take on the 4-2 Thunder. Almond was the starting QB for the Thunder last season and will be his first game against his former team.

Defensive Player of the Week goes to Corpus Christi Hammerhead Roy Salas. Salas, the 2006 IFL Defensive Player of the Year, made his presence known in the win over the Grizzlies this past weekend. He registered 10 tackles, 9 being solo. He also broke up 1 pass.

Odessa Roughnecks Kick Returner Jimmy Conner earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Conner returned 5 kicks for 134 yards for an average of 26.8. He returned one for a 47 yards touchdown in the Roughnecks win over the Frisco Thunder 47-46. He also had 1 TD receiving. Conner and the rest of the Roughnecks welcome in the CenTex Barracudas this Saturday night at 7:11pm.
