IFL Names Players of the Week

March 4, 2008 - Intense Football League (Intense) News Release


Corpus Christi, Texas: The Intense Football League Office has released the first Players of the Week Awards for the 2008 season. This season, the IFL will be recognizing the top performers of the week on Offense, Defense and Special Teams.

Week 1 IFL Offensive Player of the Week: Wes Cooper QB (Frisco Thunder)

Week 1 IFL Defensive Player of the Week: Lamont Finley DL (Frisco Thunder)

Week 1 IFL Special Teams Player of the Week: Antwane Andrews KR (San Angelo Stampede Express)

Wes Cooper had a near record breaking performance against the San Angelo. He completed 25 of 43 passes for 368 yards. He connected with 3 different receivers for his 9 Touchdown passes, 1 short of the IFL record. Cooper led his Thunder to a 63-44 victory in week 1.

Lamont Finley stood out on a defense that held the Stampede Express to 0 points in the 4th Quarter to secure the victory. Lamont had 7 Tackles (4 solo and 3 assisted) and 2 QB Sacks. 4 of his tackles netted a loss of 17 total yards.

Antwane Andrews led all kick returners in the game with 107 yards on 7 returns. His longest return of the game went for 21 yards. He averaged 14.9 yards a return.

Week Two begins this Thursday, March 6, in the IFL as the Fairbanks Grizzlies play their first game in franchise history as they travel to the Alaska Wild. The Defending 2007 IFL Champion Louisiana Swashbucklers open the season on the road facing San Angelo Stampede Express on Saturday, March 8. The weekend concludes with the Katy Ruff Riders facing the Frisco Thunder on Sunday, march 9 in Frisco.
