IFL names Benizio commissioner

Odessa, TX.: The newly formed Indoor Football League proudly announced today that Tommy Benizio would serve as the league's first-ever Commissioner. Benizio was selected from over a dozen applicants and three finalists at the leagues meetings last month. "I am very excited to enter this next phase of my career that God has presented and expect to be part of great things with the IFL," explained the new Commissioner, "I stand alongside the team owners in my belief that we have created something very stable and truly great!"
Benizio most recently served over five years as owner and president of the standout-franchise in Odessa, Texas, the Roughnecks. Under his direction in Odessa, the team enjoyed the top spot in corporate partnerships and was among the top two teams in attendance each season. On the field, his team earned the winnigest record in Intense Football League history along with an undefeated season in 2005 and a championship in 2006. Benizio was selected as the league's "Executive-of the-Year" in 2006 and his team was twice selected as "Franchise-of-the-Year" during this time period. The team was recently purchased by Allegiance Pro Sports and their president Brandon Smith in efforts to enable Benizio to accept this position.
Prior to his time in Odessa, Tommy had part ownership and/or managed several hockey teams in the CHL, WPHL, ACHL and five seasons in the ECHL were he once played professional hockey. He was also able to help the start up Af2 in 1999 as General Manager of the Roanoke Steam in Virginia. The 35 year-old will be entering his 17th season in the professional/college sports business in 2009.
Tommy will be charged with leading all areas of the league including expansion, league-wide sponsorships, public relations, and football operations. He plans to open league offices in Richmond, Virginia around December 1st of this year and is handling double duty in the meantime from Odessa, assisting with his former team and spearheading league matters.
