IFL Announces VidSwap.com Players of the Week
Published on July 23, 2009 under Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
Richmond, VA: The first round of playoff football is in the books. There were a few surprises, a couple close games, and few dominating performances that highlighted the first round of the Divisional Playoffs. The three players selected this week for Player of the Week honors each willed their respective teams to the second round of the playoffs and have visions of hoisting the United Bowl trophy. Fans can visit GoIFL.com to see the video highlights that made these young men the VidSwap.com Players of the Week.
DIVISIONAL PLAYOFFS ROUND ONE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK -QB BEN SANKEY/RIVERCITY RAGE
What a difference a solid hand at Quarterback can make. The return at Quarterback by Rage QB Ben Sankey was just what this team needed to end their late season losing streak and advance into the second round of the Divisional Playoffs. Against the leagues second ranked defense, Sankey was able to elude Rochester Raider pass rushers all night and give his receivers plenty of extra time to find open lanes. In total, he finished the game 16 for 25 for 196 yards and five touchdowns. His presence on the field has this RiverCity team thinking BIG. Sankey and the Rage get back to work this Saturday as they host the Maryland Maniacs for a shot at the United Conference Championship.
DIVISIONAL PLAYOFFS ROUND ONE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK -DB NOAH HARRIS/ FAIRBANKS GRIZZLIES
Primetime players seem to have their best games when the most is on the line. Noah Harris from the Fairbanks Grizzlies had perhaps his best performance of the season when it mattered the most. In the Grizzlies sound defeat of the Colorado Ice last weekend, Harris seemed to be involved in EVERY play. The defensive back had twelve solo tackles and one assist on the evening for a grand total of 12.5. If that wasn't enough, Harris also contributed an interception of Ice Quarterback Justin Holland and broke up another pass. Harris once again will have to be on top of his game as his Grizzlies head to Billings to face the 12-2 Outlaws this weekend in second round Divisional action.
DIVISIONAL PLAYOFFS ROUND ONE SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK-DB/KR RANDY KELLY/WICHITA WILD
Beginning drives with good field position makes life for your offense that much easier. Having that advantage in the playoffs could be the difference between advancing to the next round or not. Last weekend against Bloomington, Kick Returner Randy Kelly continually put the Wild offense in the Extreme half of the field before even having to take a snap. Kelly returned seven kicks for 162 yards, an average of 23.1, with a long of 43 yards. In addition, the speedy returner brought back a missed field goal 55 yards to set up another Wild score, and intercepted a pass on defense for a total of 14 yards. In total, Kelly accumulated 231 All-Purpose yards. Kelly and the Wild are set for another road playoff contest against Omaha this weekend.
The second round of Divisional Playoff games begin this Saturday, July 25, as the Fairbanks Grizzlies head to Billings to take on the Outlaws and the Wichita Wild travel to Omaha to face the Beef. Kickoff for both is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Follow all the action at www.goifl.com and on the B2 broadcasts www.b2livetv.com of each game all season long.
