IFL Announces Move Into Richmond

Published on June 30, 2009 under Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

Richmond, VA: On Wednesday, June 24th at the Indoor Football League's home office, located in Richmond, Virginia, members of the local media were informed that SportsQuest, a multi level sports organization, has signed a letter of intent with the IFL to bring the league's 21st franchise to the city. It is the second such expansion announcement by the league in as many weeks. The Arctic Predators, located in Wasilla, Alaska, signed their letter of intent to join the league last week.

SportsQuest is in the process of building 250 acre multi-purpose, multi-sport campus in the Chesterfield area of Virginia. The campus is designed to host athletics of all skill levels, from recreational to Olympic training. Among their plans is the creation of a 5,000 seat arena that will house hockey, basketball, and indoor football. The arena will be up and running by 2011, however talks are ongoing about placing the new team in a temporary venue for the 2010 season. "We intend to play in 2010," stated SportsQuest President Phil Evans. "We just need to finalize our facility lease deal. We expect to make a definitive announcement about our 2010 plans in the very near future."

IFL Commissioner Tommy Benizio continued the announcements by expanding on the leagues future plans. "As a primary objective, we are striving to maintain stability while continually finding new, solid playing partners in communities that will embrace the exciting sport of indoor football. By adding a team in Richmond, we can begin to expand our east coast presence." Benizio went on to say, "We are excited to have the SportsQuest team join the IFL, and there is no doubt in my mind that they are going to have great success."

The Indoor Football League was created in 2008 out of the merger between the Intense Football League and the United Indoor Football Association. It consists of 20 teams spanning from Fairbanks, Alaska to Washington DC. Log onto www.GoIFL.com for more information, or call the IFL offices at 804-643-PASS (7277).
