IFL and UIF Announce Interleague Championship Game
February 1, 2008 - Intense Football League (Intense) News Release
Corpus Christi, Texas - The Intense Football league (IFL) and the United Indoor Football (UIF) will have their 2008 champions play each other on July 26. This unprecedented game will be hosted in the home arena of the 2008 UIF Champion, one week after each team holds its Championship Game.
This game brings together two of the most stable and competitive leagues in indoor football. "In an industry often marked by adversarial relationships between leagues, this is a monumental step in a positive direction for both the IFL and the UIF,"stated IFL Vice President Tommy Benizio."I believe that both leagues will benefit from this showcase." The agreement was reached after several seasons of friendships and sharing between the two leagues. The 2009 IFL champion will host the game the following season.
UIF Executive Director, Paul Aaron, says the event will showcase the talent of the leagues, providing players visibility to move to the next level. "This is a great opportunity for our players to prove they have the ability to play at a higher level," Aaron said. UIF owners voted unanimously at league meetings in Colorado last week to formally announce the inter-league game.
While the location of the game is yet to be determined, it will be played by host league's rules. It will also be officiated by referees from each league. More details about the game will follow.
The Intense Football League kicks off the 2008 season on March 1, when the San Angelo Stampede Express travel to play the Frisco Thunder. The Alaska Wild, Centex Barracudas, Corpus Christi Hammerheads, Katy Ruff Riders, Fairbanks Grizzlies, Louisiana Swashbucklers and Odessa Roughnecks begin the following weeks.
