IceMen Sign Goaltender Pier-Olivier Pelletier

EVANSVILLE, IN.--- With everyone in a state of anxious anticipation over the move into the brand new state-of-the-art Ford Center in downtown Evansville, the AA/CHL entry, the IceMen continue their full effort in aiming for the completion of their player roster before the advent of the 2011-12 Central Hockey League season and the dawning of training camp.

The Evansville IceMen present roster has now grown to 19-players with today's latest player contract signing. On this date, General Manager /Head Coach Rich Kromm has announced that goaltender PIER-OLIVIER PELLETIER has assented to terms and signed a one-year contract with Evansville for the upcoming 2011-12 CHL pro hockey season. Adhering to club policy, terms of the contract deal were not disclosed.

PELLETIER (pell-TEE-A), 24, was recently obtained by the IceMen in an August 10th transaction with the Laredo Bucks in exchange for future considerations. The IceMen organization acted swiftly and assuredly to land the veteran netminder by way of a club contract for the new season.

The four-year pro will be coming to his new hockey home address for his third overall campaign in the CHL. The rangy 6-2, 194lb backbone backstop is toting some stellar achievements with him in his bid to augment his new employer's contending status in year #2 of Evansville CHL/AA existence. He was, originally, selected in the second round, 59th overall, by the NHL Phoenix Coyotes in the 2005 Entry Draft following a supreme four-year career in the major junior 'A' QMJHL with both the Drummondville Voltigeurs and Halifax Mooseheads from 2004 to 2008.

Last season, in 2010-11, his second campaign in Laredo, the St-Louis du-HA Ha, PQ native appeared in 29-games, posting a record of 27(7-15-5) with one shutout, 3.42 GAA and .890 SPCT. During last season, Evansville's newest goalkeeper earned elevation to the AHL where he saw some brief action with the NHL New York Rangers principal affiliate, the Connecticut Whale.

One year earlier, in 2009-10, Pelletier divided the campaign in the ECHL with the Elmira Jackals and later in Laredo. In a combined 20-games, he compiled a mark of 19(10-6-3) with a sharp 2.88 GAA and scintillating .915 SPCT.

GM/Coach Kromm likes the promise and potential that his new goaltender offers the IceMen aggregation. "We recently acquired Pier from Laredo and now we are extremely pleased to have signed him for the new season. He brings to our club plenty of potential. He is a big goalie who covers a lot of the net and he certainly provides us with sufficient experience to be our number one goaltender."

Pelletier enjoyed his best major junior 'A' season in 2006-07 with Drummondville where he posted a superb record of 47(29-18-0) in 51-games, posting one shutout, 2.97 GAA and .901 SPCT. One season later, in 2007-08 with Halifax, he, again, thrived as his 44(24-15-5) mark would reflect with a 3.34 GAA and one shutout.

Today's signing of goaltender PIER-OLIVIER PELLETIER increases the IceMen roster to 19-players, including two goaltenders, 7-defensemen and 10-forwards. Currently there are 8-players listed as returnees from last season's AA/CHL debut season. The IceMen signed players include: goaltender BRIAN GILLIS; defensemen MATT GENS, ADAM KNOPP, JORDAN LITTLE, STEVE MAKWAY, JAKE OBERMEYER, PHILIPPE PLANTE, NICK SCHNEIDER; left wings JOSH BEAULIEU, MARK CODY, MATT PIERCE, MIKE SGROI; centers BRIAN BICEK, NICKLAS LINDBERG, TODD ROBINSON, BRAD SMULDERS; right wings DUSTIN JOHNSON, SEAN O'CONNOR.
