
Icehawks Suffer Shootout Loss In Quad City, Remain In First Place

MOLINE, IL - Three Quad City Mallards players scored in a shootout on Sunday to give the Mallards their third shootout victory versus the Port Huron Icehawks in Quad City this season. After falling behind 2-0 in the shootout, the Mallards scored on three consecutive shots to take a 3-2 victory.
Brandon Naurato and Mickael Bedard scored in the first two rounds to put the Icehawks out in front, but the Mallards Patrick Levesque, Mike Zbriger and Chris Lipsett all scored to give sixth place Quad City (12-14-4-2) their fifth win in a row. Port Huron (24-8-0-3) picks up one point in the IHL standings and remains in first place with a two point lead over the Muskegon Lumberjacks.
The game went to shootout tied at 2-2 after a scoreless third period and five minute overtime. Third period shots favored the Icehawks 10-4 in third, but the Mallards outshot Port Huron in overtime 6-1 for a 37-25 advantage in the game. Adam Russo stopped 35 shots for Port Huron, while Kyle Jones made 23 saves for Quad City.
The teams skated off tied after 40 minutes. Quad City's Obi Aduba and Kyryll Katrych sandwiched goals around Ian Turner's first goal of the season for Port Huron. Aduba tied the game at 2:22 of the second period with assists from Joel Gasper and Shane Lovdahl. Turner then put Port Huron ahead with a point shot at 8:54 from Derek Patrosso and Daniel Tetrault. The Mallards tied it again at 14:52 when Katrych scored from Justin White. Port Huron's Adam Russo stopped 17 of 19 shots in the second as the Mallards held a 19-8 shot advantage in the period.
Port Huron scored on the game's first shot as Bedard tipped in a centering feed from Patrosso at 2:19 of the opening period. Nick Lindberg also assisted on Bedard's 21st goal of the season. The opening period also featured a pair of fights, with Port Huron's Jason Selleke and the Mallards Aduba hooking up at 4:02. Jason Kostadine then fought the Mallards Marc Rechlicz at 9:35. The majors were the only penalties called in the period. Quad City outshot Port Huron 8-6 in the first.
