Icehawks Free Agent Camp Gets Underway This Weekend

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks of the International Hockey League will hold their first ever Free Agent Camp this weekend at McMorran Arena. The camp is open to the public.

Approximately thirty players from the U.S. and Canada will hit the ice and attempt to battle their way onto the Icehawks roster. After three days of on-ice workouts, the top defenseman, forward and goalie will be selected to advance to the Icehawks main training camp in October. Head Coach/General Manager Stan Drulia will evaluate the participants. Matt Wiedenhoef, Head Coach for the Detroit Hitmen, the Icehawks AAHL affiliate, will also be in attendance.

Players will hit the ice for the first time Friday evening, with ice sessions from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. and again from 7:15 p.m. - 8:15 p.m. The camp will continue on Saturday with sessions from 8 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Saturday's schedule includes practice from 8 a.m. - 8:45 a.m., four-on-four games from 9:10 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. and more practice time from 10:45 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

The camp will conclude with a scrimmage game on Saturday evening from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. and another game on Sunday morning from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.

"We are excited to get these guys on the ice and see what they can do," Drulia said. "I expect there to be a lot of talented players who could have it takes to play at this level. We are happy to give them the opportunity to prove themselves."
