Port Huron Icehawks News Release

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks defeated the Quad City Mallards 3-2 in a shootout on Wednesday to snap a three game losing streak. The game marked the fourth time the Icehawks and Mallards went to a shootout in Quad City this season, but with different results. All three previous games at iWireless Center resulted in a Mallards shootout win.

The Icehawks reversed that trend tonight, as Brandon Naurato, Mike Kinnie and Mickael Bedard all scored on their shootout attempts to lead the Icehawks to victory. Only Juris Stahl found the back of the net for the Mallards.

The two teams emerged from the first period deadlocked at one. Chris Lipsett scored at 16:44 and the Icehawks got on the board just over two minutes later with a Bedard goal on assists from Tab Lardner and Derek Patrosso.

The Mallards took the lead when Mike Zbriger scored late in the second period, but the Icehawks fired back with a goal from Lardner midway through the third period to tie the game. Bedard and Daniel Tetrault assisted on Lardner's goal.

The Icehawks outshot the Mallards 7-1 in the overtime period and 49-23 overall, but Mallards goalie Jerad Kauffman turned in a strong 46 save performance to keep his team in the game until the shootout round. Icehawks goalie Larry Sterling earned the win with 21 saves.
