Niagara IceDogs News Release
Niagara IceDogs got right back in their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal, defeating the Oshawa Generals by a score of 4-2 in game three!
The first period of the game saw the IceDogs get off to a great start as they killed off a couple of early Oshawa powerplays to keep the game scoreless. Steven Shipley would open the scoring, burring the puck to get the IceDogs on the board late in the period. Shipley's goal would go unanswered and the IceDogs kept their 1-0 lead heading into the intermission. Shots on goal were 12-9 for Oshawa.
The second period would see the IceDogs amp up their intensity and quickly increase their lead to two as Steven Shipley would score his second of the night and second of the post season just 1:26 into the frame to make it 2-0. The IceDogs would extend the lead again at the midway mark in the frame when Anthony DiFrusica would put one home in front to make it a 3-0 game. The IceDogs would head into the intermission leading by that same 3-0 scoring with shots on goal favouring the home team 25-23.
The last period of play would see a determined Oshawa team score early in the period to cut the IceDogs lead to 3-1. Unfazed, the IceDogs would continue to battle and Brett Ritchie would quickly answer back for the IceDogs at 4:25 in the frame extending their lead to three once again at 4-1. Despite an outstanding goaltending effort from Chris Festarini, Oshawa would score one more before the end of the period to make it a 4-2 game. Festarini and the rest of the IceDogs would take it from there to make it a 4-2 final for the IceDogs. With the win the IceDogs are right back in the series, now trailing Oshawa 2-1.
The IceDogs will be home once again on Thursday for game four, where they will look to draw even in the series. Things get underway the IceDogs pregame Fan Fest starting at 5pm, with puck drop scheduled for 7pm.
