IceDiggers select d-man with first pick

(Alpena Michigan) The NAHL held it's entry draft on Tuesday, May 23, 2006, the IceDiggers who held the second overall pick drafted Christian Steingraber.

Steingraber who is an 1989 birth year spent last season skating in the USHL with the Clark Cup Champion Des Moines Buccaneers. He skated in 21 regular season games and 3 playoff games.

The 6'0" 180 lbs defensemen, is a native of Oregon Ohio and played his minor hockey in Detroit. Steingraber has won two National Championships in his young career one with HoneyBaked and again this past season with Des Moines.

Coach Miller who was very pleased to have Steingraber available when the IceDiggers were on the clock Tuesday during the draft stated. "I knew that a player of Christian's caliber would not have lasted long in the draft, so when we had the chance to take him we jumped on it. I have watched him grow as a player through the years and I know he will make an impact right away for our team."

So what does Coach Miller expect from the second overall pick in the NAHL draft.

"Christian is definitely a guy that can, and will step in and make a difference every time he touches the ice. I know we are not only getting a great player but we are also getting a great kid who comes from a great family."

IN OTHER DRAFT NEWS:

The Alpena IceDiggers also selected Jimmy McCusker and Marco Ruggeri during the entry draft.

McCusker (Forward) played last season with the Compuware Ambassadors AAA team where he was the team captain. "Jimmy is a guy who will give us energy, and I feel he will score some big goals for us." Said Kenny Miller.

Ruggeri (Forward) spent this past season with Belle Tire AAA where he was teammate of current tendered players Evan West and Logan Toohey. Marco helped guide his team to the Midget AAA National Tournament in Buffalo, NY. "Marco is going to be a big time player for us, he is a game breaker." Coach Miller stated.
