Traverse City North Stars News Release
TRAVERSE CITY - After starting slow the first three games of the North American Hockey League season, the Traverse City North Stars suffered a third period setback on Friday, allowing Alpena to score a trio of third period goals en route to a 4-3 win in the Stars' home opener at Centre ICE arena. Justin Stadler, Andrew Wilcox and Zach Barron each tallied scores in the final 20 minutes - including Barron's power play game-winner with 5:18 to play. It was Barron's second off the evening. The North Stars (1-3-0) broke the scoreless deadlock with 3:47 to go in the first stanza when Jared Mullen (Roanoke, VA./Belle Tire midget-AAA) scored on assists from Mathew Larke (Royal Oak, MI/Honeybaked midget-AAA) and Steven Oleksy (Chesterfield, MI./Metro Jets junior-B CSHL). Barron tied the score late in the second, but two quick goals - one from Jonathan Juliano (Clinton Twp., MI/Belle Tire midget-AAA) at 17:37 of the second and a shorthanded tally from Patrick Nagorsen (Novi, MI./Orchard Lake St. Mary's) less than two minutes later gave the hosts a 3-1 bulge. Jeremy Kaleniecki (Addison Twp., MI/Robert Morris College) was outstanding in net for the home team, steering aside 25 shots. Phil Greer made 32 stop for Alpena (1-3-1). The teams square off again on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Centre ICE arena, where 1,106 fans took in Friday's inaugural contest.
