IceDiggers drop North Stars

Alpena IceDiggers News Release


Alpena MI: With in-state rival Traverse City in town the IceDiggers walked out of Northern Lights Arena with a commanding 5-1 victory tonight in front of 978 fans.

The IceDiggers got the lead early when Alpena native Erik Peterson scored from the half wall on the powerplay, assisting on the goal were Justin Stadler (Livonia MI) and Austin Seiple (Maumee OH). Alpena would score two more before the end of two periods to take a 3-0 lead heading into the final twenty minutes. Veteran Ricardo Yesue (Allen Park MI) scored his first of the season also on the PP with Drew Pierson (Pleasant Prairie WI) and Chad Billins (Marysville MI) picking up assists. Defensemen Ben Kitzmiller (Lambertville MI) would give the IceDiggers a 3-0 lead on the powerplay with a shot from the point Todd Rudasill (Powell OH) and Billins were credited with the helpers. Nolan Craner (Plainwell MI) and Eric Roman (West Bloomfield Hills MI) added assists on Peterson empty net goal.

Traverse City would cut the lead to two before Alpena scored their 4th goal of the game once again on the powerplay this time coming off the stick off Pierson, Rudasill and Evan West (Marysville MI) assisted on the goal. Peterson would finish the scoring for Alpena with a shorthanded empty net goal to finish off the Northstars.

Shawn Hunwick (Sterling Hts. MI) notched is 5th win of the season for the IceDiggers in goal making 20 saves on 21 shots.
