With the IceDiggers wearing special event St. Patrick jersey's they had the luck of the Irish on their side in front of 680 fans at Northern Lights Arena, Matt Suggs scored the game winning goal late in the second period, while Justin Stadler and Ben Kitzmiller contributed a goal apiece to help defeat TEAM USA U-17, 3-2 Friday night at Northern Lights Arena.
Erik Peterson, Eric Roman, Jeff Miller, Steve Culbertson and Korey O'Brien added assists for Alpena.
Peter O'Hara picked up his second consecutive win between the pipes for Alpena making 31 saves in the victory.
The IceDiggers went 1 for 2 on the powerplay while the visitors went 1 for 3.
The race for the final playoff spot in the North Division tightens up even more, the IceDiggers trail their cross state rival Traverse City by 9 points. The IceDiggers however have 3 games in hand.
The IceDiggers return to action on Saturday at Northern Lights Arena to take on the same TEAM USA U-17. Both teams will head to Ann Arbor on Sunday for a 3:00pm face off at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
