Ice win 4-1

February 14, 2014 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Indiana Ice News Release

Not much can slow down the Indiana Ice these days---not even a broken Zamboni and a loose pane of glass. Goaltender Hayden Stewart continued his streak of shutout netminding to 203 minutes as the Ice dominated the Tri-City Storm in a 4-1 victory at Pan Am Pavillion Friday evening.

A malfunctioning Zamboni delayed the start of the second period, but Stewart never cooled off as he extended his perfect netminding to eight straight periods.

By the time the Storm ended the shutout stretch, Indiana built up a 3-0 lead. The hosts scored a pair of first period goals in 36 seconds to gain control. Jason Salvaggio snapped a shot past Tri-City goalie Jacob Johansson 10:51 after the opening faceoff. Dwyer Tschantz doubled the lead when he teamed with Scott Conway at 11:27 to send Johansson to the showers in the first period.

Meanwhile Stewart was having a much easier evening in goal as the Storm did not have a shot on goal the first 13:55 of the contest.

Getting a puck stuck in the Zamboni mechanism was an easier task than solving Stewart. After a remedy was found on the broken ice clearing machine, Brian Pinho beat relief goaltender Hayden Lavigne at 1:30 of the second stanza. Jacob Pritchard was credited with an assist.

The visitor's Kevin Kerr stopped Stewart franchise-record scoreless streak at 11:25 of the final period. The single tally did not stop the reigning USHL Goaltender of the Week from improving his record with Indy to 6-0-0 including a pair of shutouts last weekend and only one goal allowed in each subsequent match.

Aidan Muir potted an empty net goal for the hosts 18 seconds before the final horn.

The teams face a rematch Saturday at Pan Am before hitting the road for a Sunday matinee contest with Team USA at 3:30 pm.
