WHAT CAN "BROWN" DO FOR YOU?: Former NHL blueliner Jeff Brown takes over as GM/Head Coach of the Ice after spending four successful seasons with the St. Louis Bandits of the NAHL, where he led the team to three Robertson Cup finals appearances and one Robertson Cup championship. As an NHL'er, the defenseman played 13 years in the "show" most notably with St. Louis and Vancouver, where he amassed 585 points (154G, 431A) and 498 penalty minutes in 747 career NHL contests.
THE "HANDY MAN" CAN: After spending over a month on injured reserve, Peter Hand has come back in "fine form" as the veteran USHL defenseman has points in three consecutive games. In the two games against Green Bay last weekend, he produced five points (G, 4A) and a (+5) plus/minus. His (+4) rating on Friday tied him with Austin Ortega for the best mark for an Ice player in a game this season.
LUCKY 13: First-year forward Brian Morgan scored a goal in both games last weekend giving him 13 lamplighters on the year, good for second on the team and tied for fourth in the USHL. Over the last six games, the Windham, NH native has pumped in six goals to go along with two assists.
PLAYER JUICE: Forward Drew Smolcynski leads all Ice players in both power play goals (5) and shorthanded goals (2)...Austin Ortega has points in six of his last seven games (5G, 4A) and is third in the USHL in goals (14)...Zach Aman (+5), Peter Hand (+4) and Alex Talcott (+3) lead the team in plus/minus...Bo Pieper has three assists in his last four games...Rinat Valiev earned a (+3) plus/minus rating Friday in Green Bay.
TEAM TIDINGS: Indy is one of two teams to not allow a shorthanded goal on home ice...The Ice is fourth in the USHL in overall power play conversion (20.6%), but just 14th on the penalty kill (76.7%)...Indy leads all USHL teams with 16 road games so far this season...The Ice was 2-2-0 against Waterloo last year
ALUMNI SPEAKING: Casey DeSmith (09-11) won another two games this weekend for #1 ranked New Hampshire which were his ninth and tenth wins of the season...Cab Morris (09-10) collected a victory for Dartmouth on Saturday....Multiple goal scorers for Ice alumni on the weekend included Kyle Bonis (07-08) and David Johnstone (09-11) for Ferris State and Michigan Tech respectively...Robert Polesello (11-12) scored his first collegiate goal for Vermont this weekend.
