Ice Rough up Riders in 3-1 Victory over Cedar Rapids

Indiana Ice News Release

The Indiana Ice can put four on the floor like no other team in the United States Hockey League. Over the last 15 games, their four-line depth continues to pay offs like it did in Sunday's 3-1 victory over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. Even in a 3-2 overtime loss one month ago to the RoughRiders, the Ice dominated by outshooting Cedar Rapids 40-15.

The outcome at Bankers Life Fieldhouse Sunday was much better as Indy had a 32-17 shot advantage and improved to 11-2-2 over that 15 game stretch.

Indiana used all four lines to control the game from start to finish. The host's scored a goal in each of the three periods lead by Alex Talcott's pair of assists including the game-winning score in the second period and an insurance goal to seal the victory.

"(Joshua) Jacobs shot a puck which went off of me. Their defenseman bit on a fake and (Jacob) Pritchard was calling for the puck. I knew he was left-handed and he had a great finish on my pass," commented Talcott on the goal which put the Ice up 2-1 at 3:55 of the second stanza.

Talcott later assisted on the host's third period tally when they converted on their first power play of the evening. Denis Smirnov buried his fourth goal of the season 8:11 into the final frame when he was left alone on the doorstep of the visitor net. Scott Conway stretched a scoring pass from the corner along the goal line to Smirnov.

The Russian's goal gave Indiana a two-goal lead after the RoughRiders narrowed the lead to 2-1 less than two minutes into the final stanza.

Tyler Andrew scored Indy's first period goal after receiving a pin-point pass from Joseph Sullivan with 2:36 remaining in the opening frame. Andrew only had to steer Sullivan's pass into the weak side of the Cedar Rapids net.

The victory gave Indiana a 72-32 shots on goal advantage in two meetings with Cedar Rapids.

"We can roll out four lines and constantly put pressure on our opponents," added Talcott. "By the time we get to the third period, it is hard to keep up with us as they get tired."
