Indiana Ice News Release
The Indiana Ice split a pair on contests this weekend after falling to the Muskegon Lumberjacks 4-1 at L.C. Walker Arena.
Rinat Valiev scored the lone goal for Indy while Mattias Soderqvist logged 16 saves in his USHL debut.
The Ice dominated a 10-5 shot advantage in the first period, but Muskegon took an early 1-0 lead after Ben Foster lit the lamp for the Lumberjacks with just over 15 minutes remaining in the first period.
The scoreboard remained quiet in the second period despite a combined 21 shot attempts in the middle frame.
Muskegon expanded the deficit to 2-0 on the tape of Tyler Heinonen before Valiev sliced the Lumberjacks' lead in half with his first USHL career goal. Valiev buried the puck past goaltender Kevin Lindskoug after the puck deflected off a Muskegon defenseman's skate.
Max Shuart and Chad McDonald added to the Lumberjacks' lead to close the game at 4-1.
Indiana continues on their six game road trip next weekend with a Siouxland triple-header against the Fargo Force, Sioux Falls Stampede and the Sioux City Musketeers.
Hockey returns to the Circle City On Saturday, October 20 against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders from Pan Am Plaza.
