INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Ice announced today that defenseman Matt Krug has committed to Union College for the fall of 2013. Krug becomes the first player in Ice franchise history to commit to the Dutchmen.
Krug appeared in 56 games for Indy last season, compiling 11 points (2G, 9A) and 24 penalty minutes. He was also named the league's Defensive Player of the Week for the second week in January.
Prior to his arrival in Indy, Krug tended the blue line for the Buffalo Jr. Sabres of the OJHL. His 44 points and 34 assists led all Jr. Sabres defensemen while finishing fourth among league blueliners.
Union College is a NCAA Hockey Division I member of the ECAC and has made the NCAA Men's Hockey Championship Tournament for the past two seasons. The Dutchmen made their first trip to the Frozen Four last season before losing in the national semifinals to Ferris State University.
The Indiana Ice is now taking deposits for 2012-2013 season ticket packages. Call the Ice office at 317-925-4423 for more information.
