Dashers Late Rally Leads to OT Victory

The Dashers put their 10 game win streak on the ice tonight against the Battalion of Berkshire. The Battalion did tally first, coming from a Robert Morton power play goal. However, off the next faceoff, Justin Brausen took the puck the length of the ice and buried a goal over the gloves side of Stephen Messina. Later in the period, Morton would tally his second goal and give the Battalion a 2-1 lead that they took to the locker room after the first period.

The Dashers ended the second period the same way they started it; trailing. The Dashers actually surrendered a goal to Michael Kaseloukas, falling to a 3-1 deficit. The story through the first two periods was the Dashers penalties. The Dashers couldn't keep themselves out of the box, eventually surrendering two power play goals. The Dashers streak was in real danger after two periods.

Through the first 16 minutes of the third period the Dashers 10 game win streak looked all but over. Then everything changed. The Dashers, down two goals, with an empty net, Justin Levac buried a slap shot from the point and cut the Battalion lead in half. Still in hot water, with 30 seconds left to go the Dashers Justin Brausen skated along the boards and in behind the net before burying a wrap-around, and in doing so sending the game to overtime. In the overtime session, after a successful penalty kill, Brian Soskin had a two on one breakaway with his line mate A.J. Tesoriero. Soskin threw a puck across the ice to a waiting Tesoriero who buried a one-timer past Stephen Messina and extended the win streak to 11 games. The Dashers are back in action against Berkshire tomorrow at 5:05 P.M.

Whalers Lose 6th Straight, Demonz Win 2-1

Things couldn't get much worse if you are the Danbury Whalers. After losing of 13 of 15 and their last 5 straight, falling from 1st to 4th place, the Demonz rolled into town and were keen on kicking the Whalers while they were down. That they did.

The 1st period saw Dayton get their lone 2 goals of the game, on the power play, Ahmed Mahfouz scored on a funny bounce to give Dayton a 1-0 lead, then a Mark Rivera breakaway beat Mike Brown to make it 2-0. However the Whalers outshot Dayton through the 1st period and played solid hockey, and going into the 2nd period it continued, and the Whalers got rewarded, as Ryan Patsch tallied a rebound goal to beat Dan McWhinney and make it 2-1. Both side continued their strong play and both goalies stood on their heads. However, as a result, the Whalers could not score the equalizer, and the Demonz held on to win 2-1.

For the Demonz, Mark Rivera and Ahmed Mahfouz had the goals, and Dan McWhinney stopped 34 of 35 shots for the win. For Danbury, Ryan Patsch had the lone goal, and Mike Brown stopped 27 of 29 shots for the loss.

While Danbury is finished for the weekend, the Dayton Demonz are heading to Watertown to play the Wolves tomorrow and Monday nights. 551 fans braved the winter weather to come watch the game at Danbury Arena.
