Whalers Suffer Loss to Battalion
DANBURY -- The Danbury Whalers let one slip away Saturday night as the Berkshire Battalion scored two third-period goals to rally for a 4-3 FHL victory at the Danbury Ice Arena .
Michael Dolman tied the game at 3-3 with a power play goal and Dmitry Antipin scored the game-winner with 3:30 left in regulation. Vadim Guskov and Mike McCurtain assisted on the final goal.
Danbury jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with first-period goals from Ian DeLong, Tim Richter and Ilya Solarev. Berkshire, however, fought back to score two goals in the second. Guskov and Jeffrey Sanders scored for the Battalion.
Mike Brown finished with 38 saves for Danbury and Stephen Messina had 40 saves for Berkshire.
The same two teams will play again tonight at 5 in Danbury.

Dashers Edge Demonz 2-1 in OT
The Danville Dashers, riding an eight game win streak coming into tonight, took on the Dayton Demonz, in one of the best hockey games I think I have ever seen. The Demonz started off very fast and that quick start resulted in a Ahmed Mahfouz goal with an assist from Jared Hicks. The first period was the Dan McWhinney show; making save after save, McWhinney held the Dashers scoreless. The Demonz took that early goal into the locker room and had a 1-0 lead.
The Dashers had a flurry of shots on net to start the period, but all were turned wide by McWhinney. The Dashers finally broke through that brick wall that was McWhinney with a goal by Dan Turgeon, with an assist from Justin Brausen. Keep the Turgeon and Brausen combo in mind as we move forward in the game. The Second period ended in a 1-1 tie.
The Dashers and Demonz were both scoreless in the third period, but that doesn't mean it was without plenty of action. The Dashers Joe Pace had a tilt against the Demonz Cody Milligan, which after all penalties were assessed, the Dashers faced a seven minute penalty to kill, which they did perfectly. The Demonz and Dashers would head to overtime after a highlight film save by McWhinney at the horn of the third period. In the overtime session, the Dashers Justin Brausen skated into the zone and toe dragged around Len Pelletier, which resulted in a two on one with Dan Turgeon at his side. Brausen faked on a wrist shot and then threw the puck across for Turgeon who blew a one timer home that sent the Demonz all the way back to Dayton. With the win the Dashers are on a nine game winning streak. The Dashers are back in action next Friday at home against Steel City.

Watertown Defeats Warriors, 8-1
Tonight's game between the Warriors featured everything a fan of Old Time Hockey would love. It had goal scoring...mostly for the Wolves--- who got out early for a 5-0 lead after 1. All 8 goals were scored by 8 different skaters for The Wolves, showing tremendous balance and why they are the odds on favorites to win The Federal League Championship this season. The Warriors showed some heart and grit after a long drive home last night, arriving home at 7:30am on game day. Edgars Ozolins got the Warriors on the board from Ryan Dolence and MJ Graham. At that point... the gloves were off... literally. Reggie Dunlop would have been proud of Nikolas Sturmankin, stepping up and registering his first fight of the season against Justin Alonzo. That was followed by Dane Erikson getting tossed for Abusing an official after fighting MJ Graham and then Both Goalies threw down in what can only be classified as a fight of the year candidate. The final fight of the night was Warriors 6' 5" Blue liner Ozolins and Cody Dion. Dion had no chance against the much larger Ozolins. Watertown may have won the game, but he Warriors can hold their heads high, having played right with the potential league champions for the final 2 periods.
