Berkshire Surprise First Place Whalers, 7-4

Danbury CT-The Berkshire Battalion have played much better hockey over the past month. Friday night they continued their hot play by defeating the first place Whalers by a score of 7-4. Tyler Prendergast collected a hat trick and an assist while Vadim Guskov had a 3 point night of his own. Louie George stopped 31 pf 35 to earn the win.

Danbury jumped out to a 2-1 lead after one period of play as Ian Delong and Tim Richter collected tallies for the home team, while Lester Brown chipped one home for the Battalion.

In the second period the scoring flood gates opened as the two teams combined for 6 goals. Martin Uhnak, Tyler Prendergast (2) and former Whaler Vladyslav Gavrik connected for the Battalion, while Ryan Patsch notched two in the middle frame to make it a 5-4 Berkshire lead after two. Ilya Solarev had an opportunity to tie the game with one minute remaining in the period on a penalty shot, but was denied by the goaltender George.

In the third period the Battalion added to their lead thanks to Michael Dolman at the 10:13 mark and then capped off the victory with an empty net goal by Prendergast to complete the hat trick. Mike Brown made 20 saves in the loss for Danbury.

Wolves Defeat Warriors, 5-2

The Watertown Wolves hosted the Steel City Warriors at the Watertown Municipal Arena. The Wolves looked to repeat their results from the last meeting with the team from Southwestern Pennsylvania to move back towards the top of the Federal Hockey League standings.

Cody Dion dented the back of the Steel City goal at 4 minutes into the period with assistance from Lucas LaBelle and Ben Schoeneberger. Watertown's Corey Evelyn received 2 minutes for elbowing and the Wolves were successful in killing off Steel City's power play. Edgars Ozolins's 2-minute holding penalty provided Watertown their next opportunity to score. Justin MacDonald assisted Phil Bronner in the short-handed goal that brought Watertown to a 2-0 lead. This would be the score at the end of the period with Watertown outshooting Steel City on the goal 16-5.

The fans were treated to a brief tussle between Watertown's Kris McCarthy and Steel City's Anthony O'Malley at 7 minutes into the second period. The officials ended it when O'Malley was taken down to the ice. Watertown's lead was extended at the 12-minute mark on a goal from Lucas LaBelle with an assist from Aaron Atwell. LaBelle looked like he would have a second goal at the 5-minute mark, as the puck would bounce back out of the goal from the net's bindings. The officials called it a no-goal and the score would remain at 3-0 Watertown for the rest of the period. The Wolves would outshoot the Warriors again 10-4.

Lucas LaBelle would get his second goal of the night short handed for Watertown 3 minutes into the third period. Watertown's Matt Wray and Steel City's Jay Alera rumbled at the 7-minute mark sending them both to the penalty box. Watertown's Kris McCarthy still had some fight left in him as he scrapped Nicolas Levesque 90 seconds later. The Wolves would have their lead extended by Dylan O'Neil with Justin MacDonald and Colby Spooner assisting. It looked like the Wolves would get a shut out on this game for Jo St. Pierre, but the Warriors had other plans when Levesque scored at 18:23 with assistance from Tom Tracy and MJ Graham. With 1 second left on the clock, Denis Semonv scored on assists from Levesque and Tom Tracy. Watertown would prevail 5-2. The three stars of the game were Lucas LaBelle, Nicolas Levesque, and Jo St. Pierre.

Watertown's next home game will be against the Danbury Whalers at the Watertown Municipal Arena on Tuesday, December 30th. The puck drops at 7:35. Dayton Down Dashers, 5-2

The Demonz of Dayton were in town tonight to take on our Dashers. The Demonz didn't let the Christmas vacation slow them down, scoring two goals in the first minute of the game, one coming from Vanwysberghe and the other from Rivera. The Dashers cut into that lead on a 4 on 4 off a goal from JD Gordon, with an impressive assist from Gehrett Sargis. The Demonz extended their lead to 3-1 just before heading into the locker room off a goal from Rivera, his second of the game.

The Demonz came out of the locker room for the second with a one goal lead. The Demonz extended that lead to 4-1; Rob Vanwysberghe scoring the goal. The Demonz ended the period with the 4-1 lead. The Dashers had a few chances in the second period but the Demonz net minder, Carlson, shut the door on all of them. The third period was a fast, quite one. The Demonz did score a goal, as August Aiken scored a goal of a pass from Vanwysberghe. That goal made it a 4-1 lead for the Demonz. The Dashers did get that goal back as Justin Brausen put a little half slapper past Carlson of Dayton. Brian Soskin got the assist on that goal, which made the game 5-2 Demonz. That 5-2 lead would hold up and the Demonz took the win. The Demonz will be back in town tomorrow to take on our Dashers at 7:05pm from the David S. Palmer Arena in Danville.
