Team Effort and Character Give Demonz Overtime Win

(Dayton, Ohio) Brian Marks sudden-death overtime goal gave the Demonz the opportunity to play another day. In the overtime session it was the Demonz who were able to pull out the 3-2 win, and cut Danbury's lead in the best of 5 championship series to 2 games to 1.

The Demonz objective this evening was to go out and take one shift at a time. Live in the presence, outwork the Whalers, take the body and win more shifts than the Whalers. Tonight's effort paid off in front of their enthusiastic home crowd at Hara Arena.

Dayton outshot Danbury in the game 69 to 48. Neither team was able to capitalize on their power-play opportunities, as both teams penalty killing units neutralized each other along with solid goaltending was outstanding while skating shorthanded.

Danbury took a 1-0 lead at the 3:20 mark of the first period. The Whalers were able to take advantage of an offensive zone faceoff deep in the Demonz zone. Cody Ayers was able to feed a pass to Igor Karlov, who fired the puck into the Dayton net as he broke through the left slot. Karlov's goal was the only scoring between both teams in the first frame.

Mike Brown the starting goalie for the Whalers suffered in what appeared to be a lower body injury with just over 6 minutes left in the first period. Brown was replaced by Kevin Hoy to finish the game for the Whalers.

Dayton would take a 2-1 lead after two periods of play. Both goals for the Demonz were scored by the tenacious Roger Tagoona. Tagoona's first goal which tied the game at 1-1 came off a slap shot off the stick of defenseman Len Pelletier inside the left point, with Tagoona redirecting the puck into the Danbury net just over a minute into the 2nd period.

The Demonz took the 2-1 lead 6:09 of the second, with Tagonna going one on one with James Sanford of the Whalers. Sanford's sweep-check on Tagonna shot accidently went top shelf into the Danbury net.

The middle period took about 45 minutes to play the 20 minute period as there were numerous infractions called which created many stoppages in play.

With Dayton controlling play in the first two periods, Danbury controlled the final frame in stretches, spending extended time in the Demonz zone. Danbury seemed to get a breath of life tying the game at 3-3 at the mid-point of the 3rd period. The tying goal scored by Ryan Patsch came when he was able to pick up a loose puck in the neutral zone, releasing a shot from inside the blue line at the Demonz net, beating Dayton goaltender Jeff Rose through the 5 hole and sending the game into overtime.

Both teams meet tomorrow night at Hara Arena with a start time of 5:05.
