Watertown Comes Back Late, Wins in OT

The officials seemed to be missing the red on their jerseys and the Privateers logo on their chests, judging by the way the calls went for Danville tonight, just about every call, including 2 waived goals, were taken away from the Dashers, and it costs them the game.

Things started well for Danville, as Roman Andrejev scored on the power play to give the Dashers an early 1-0 lead. However, the momentum would make a huge swing 54 seconds later, as A.J. Tesoriero sent a floating shot on goal from the red line, it bounced off a piece of ice in the creased and fooled Nick Niedert, shades of Vesa Toskala. The goal silenced the crowd at the Palmer Arena and silenced the Dashers offense.

In the 2nd period of play, everything was quiet up until the final minute of play. With 35 seconds to go, a Dasher (I didnt see who it was unfortunately) shot the puck into the net, the goal light came on, yet the officials called no goal. However, Lucas LaBelle would send one home that would indeed count with 15 seconds to go as Danville took a 2-1 lead into the 2nd intermission.

Fast forward to the last 5 minutes of the 3rd, Dashers control the offense and just after the 5 minute mark, Malcolm Lyles fires one into the back of the net while Matt Anthony was out of position and its 3-1 Dashers, or at least it should have been. The officials waive the goal off saying it didnt go in when it clearly was in the back of the net, the red light came on and the Dashers celebrated, but no goal. Only minutes later with the goalie pulled, Watertown would tie it with 21 seconds left with a goal by Dane Erickson. What could have been a 3-1 final became a 2-2 tie requiring overtime.

Overtime would also include probably the biggest non call in the game, as at about halfway through the OT period, Roman Andrejev takes an enormous elbow to the face from a Privateer, causing Andrejev to leave the ice bleeding, and the Dashers short of arguably their best forward, with no power play to compensate on an elbow that Gordie Howe would have been proud of. That would be the final nail in the coffin, as Andrew Harrison takes a lead pass from Dane Erickson on a breakaway and scores with less than a minute to go to secure the 3-2 OT win for Watertown.

Roman Andrejev and Lucas LaBelle finished with a goal apiece for Danville, Nick Niedert stopping 31 of 34. For Watertown, Dane Erickson, A.J. Tesoriero and Andrew Harrison finished with a goal and assist each, and Matt Anthony stopped 39 of 41 and earned the win. The 2 teams will next meet on the 20th at Watertown, 7:35pm ET.
