Dayton, OH - The Danbury Whalers came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Dayton Demonz, but did just enough to escape with a 5-4 victory.

Danbury led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Whalers' Philip Aucoin's scored at 5:36 in the third period to put Danbury up 5-2.

Aucoin had two goals to lead the Whalers to victory.

Danbury's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Danbury also got points from Mike Atkinson, who also registered one goal and one assist and Matt Caranci, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Danbury also got a goal from Kelly Miller as well. Other players who recorded assists for Danbury were Matthew Puntureri, who had two and Richard Vanderhoek, Chris Atkinson, and Tyler Noseworthy, who contributed one a piece.

Dayton was led by Chris Leveille, who dished out three assists.

Mike Brown rejected 32 shots on goal for Danbury. Jeff Rose recorded 43 saves for the Demonz.

Game Two of the series will be on Saturday night at the Hara Arena. Face-off will be at 7:35.
