Ice blank Phantoms

Indiana Ice News Release

Sometimes a trip the penalty box can be worse than a night at the Bates Motel. Saturday night the Indiana Ice checked into the box six times and walked out unscathed all half-dozen visits.

The Indiana penalty kill limited the visiting Youngstown Phantoms to a mere two shots on goal while the Phantoms skated with the man advantage on six occasions. With a dozen big-time saves, goaltender Hayden Stewart stuck a dagger in the Youngstown offense with a 17-save shutout which propelled the Ice to a 3-0 victory at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in front of a season-high 5,848 spectators.

The Ice scored a goal in all three frames as Brian Pinho potted the game-winner when the visitors turned over the puck on the power play at the faceoff dot in front of their own net. Pinho made them pay by burying a shot 8:46 after the opening puck drop.

The hosts increased the lead to 2-0 at 7:16 of the middle stanza when Tyler Pham found the back of the net with a wrist shot from the faceoff circle. Tyler Andrew and Jason Salvaggio earned assists in the scoring sequence.

A pair of second period fights and a pair of roughing penalties set the stage for a contentious rematch Sunday in Youngstown. Youngstown's JJ Piccinich dropped gloves with Salvaggio minutes after the Ice's Timothy Shoup dueled with Tyler Spezia.

The host's Austin Kosack and the Phantom's Kyle Connor got snarky at the second period horn and started the third period in the penalty box.

Sam Kurker capped the scoring with an unassisted lamplighter 6:16 into final frame.
