Indiana Ice News Release

Mikhail Plotnikov logged his second career hat trick while Lukas Laub added a pair of goals as the Indiana Ice pounded the Chicago Steel 6-3 on Sunday from the Edge Ice Arena.

Drew Newmeyer also added a goal for Indy while Patrick Newell (3A) and Jake Cass (2A) both added multiple assists on the afternoon. Anderson Snair delivered a solid performance in net with 22 saves on 25 shots on net.

Laub scored his first of two goals early, burying a wrister from the faceoff circle 3:25 into the game to give the Ice a 1-0 lead in the opening minutes of the contest. The feed came from the corner where Yim pulled the puck off the boards and fed it across the crease of Steel Chris Nell for the first goal of the game.

Newmeyer extended Indy's lead 13 minutes later with his fifth goal of the season. Ice newcomers Mitch Hults and Jake Cass combined for the assists on the play.

Chicago narrowed the gap at 2-1 when Michael Holland put the Steel on the board, but Laub answered back with his second tally of the night to reclaim the two-goal night. Yim recorded his second assist on the night while Josh Jacobs put his name on the scoresheet with a helper on the goal.

A goal by Charlie O'Connor once again put Chicago right at the doorstep before Plotnikov rattled off a pair of lamplighters to slam the door on the second period.

The first of his two second-period goals came immediately after Patrick Newell won a faceoff just five minutes into the frame. The second came off a kneeling wrister from the goal line. The puck rattled off the post and deflected off Nell and into the cage, locking the score at 5-2 with just under one minute left in the second period.

Two goals scored in the third period; one by each team. Jaccob Slavin's goal with just over three minutes finalized Chicago's tally at three while Plotnikov's goal in the third period was his third of the night, completing the natural hat trick halfway through the period.

The hat trick is his second of the season and marks his fourth game with three or more points this season.

Indy continues through their six-game road trip with three more contests this week in Chicago and Dubuque. Hockey returns to Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Saturday, April 6 against Team USA at 7:05 pm.
