Ice Bears' Swider Named Sher-Wood Player Of The Month

CHARLOTTE, NC (April 2, 2010) - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced Kevin Swider of the Knoxville Ice Bears has been named the Sher-Wood SPHL Player of the Month for March.

Swider, who is currently on a record 31-game point streak, averaged three points-per-game last month, having scored 12 goals and 18 assists in just 10 games.

After scoring eight points in his first four games, the Livonia, MI native notched his first career four-goal game in a 4-1 win over Fayetteville on March 13. Swider recorded six points in his next three games before setting a new SPHL record on March 26 by assisting on seven goals in Knoxville's 9-3 win over Huntsville. Swider closed out the regular season the following night by scoring twice and adding three assists in a 9-4 win over Fayetteville, extending his league-record scoring streak to 31 games

The two-time SPHL Most Valuable Player finished the season with 102 points, including a career-high 44 goals, in capturing his sixth-consecutive scoring title. Swider, who played his collegiate hockey at Ferris State (MI) University, never finished lower than third in team scoring during his four-year career and led the Bulldogs in scoring his senior season.
