Indiana Ice News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - Former Indiana Ice defenseman Torey Krug looks to continue his playoff tear as the Boston Bruins do battle with the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2013 Stanley Cup Championship starting this Wednesday at 8pm on NBC. Krug becomes the first Ice alum to ever play in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Krug's play has been a hot topic in the NHL after the rookie blueliner was called up from Boston's AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins, at the beginning of the second round of the playoffs. In the Eastern Conference semifinal series against the New York Rangers, he became the first rookie defenseman in the Stanley Cup era to record four goals in his first five postseason appearances.

He continued his strong play in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Pittsburgh Penguins, recording an assist and averaging nearly 15 minutes of ice time in the four-game sweep. Through nine playoff games, Krug walks into the Stanley Cup Finals with six points (4G, 2A) and a +5 plus/minus rating.

Prior to his time with Boston, Krug finished fourth among AHL defensemen and led all team blueliners in points (45), goals (13) and assists (32). His efforts earned him Providence's Defenseman of the Year honors and the AHL's Rookie of the Month award in February.

In addition to Krug's championship run, former Clark Cup Champion Ice coach Jeff Blashill is looking to add a Calder Cup Championship to his resume as his Grand Rapids Griffins squad currently hold a 2-0 series lead against the Syracuse Crunch. Blashill is in his first year as head coach of the Detroit Red Wings' affiliate club after spending last season as an assistant on the Detroit bench under head coach Mike Babcock.
