Foothill Ranch, Calif. - April 24, 2008 - IBN Sports announced that it has reached an agreement with the Golden Baseball League to broadcast league owned team games for the upcoming 2008 season on the IBN Sports Baseball Channel. A professional baseball league, the Golden Baseball League was inaugurated in 2005 and is made up of eight teams spread throughout California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and western Canada. While the exact games and the number of games that will be covered are yet to be determined, the League owned teams that will begin coverage on the Baseball Channel are the Chico Outlaws, Reno Silver Sox, Long Beach Armada, and the Yuma Scorpions.
"We are excited to give our loyal fans another great way to follow their team this season," said Dave Kaval, Chief Executive Officer of the Golden Baseball League. "iBN Sports is a leader in internet broadcasting and the Baseball Channel is a great venue for GBL baseball. In addition, the exposure for players and marketing opportunities for corporate partners makes it a home run."
The Baseball Channel is one of the growing sports verticals within the network of iBN Sports and Ed Hart is the channel's Executive Producer. "The GBL is a premiere league that has attracted outstanding talent, both on and off the field," said Hart. "This league has team managers who are former all stars and future baseball Hall of Famers. Its players include former major leaguers along with top college athletes who just missed getting drafted. In the past three years, GBL has seen 59 players get called up to affiliated big league teams," added Hart. "We are thrilled to add the GBL to our roster on the Baseball Channel. Our fans are going to be in for a treat when they log-on to catch the action," said Hart.
"Baseball is America's game. The size and scope of the demographics of baseball have long established it as America's pastime," said John Mudge, COO of iBN Sports. "While MLB is covered by the networks, leagues like Golden Baseball have a very tight and loyal following within their respective communities. These players and fans are committed to their teams for the simple and pure love of the game. The sponsors and brands that support the teams understand this and we are excited to be able to bring these games to fans for free over the Internet," said Mudge.
The season consists of eighty to ninety games per team, begins in late May and ends in early September. Each team has approximately two weeks of spring training to prepare for the season. Baseball fans can go to http://www.ibnsports.com/baseball.asp to find their favorite team and view the games for free. Broadcast of the games will be both Live and archived On-Demand for up to one year on the IBN Sports network.
