Barrie 9 Brantford 3

Brad Bissell earned the win for the league-leading Barrie Baycats with a strong start against the Brantford Red Sox. Bissell went six innings and kept the Red Sox hitters at bay while his own offence went to work. Bissell allowed three runs while scattering seven hits and left the game with a commanding 7-1 lead. Nathan Forer took the loss for the Red Sox going six innings but allowing nine earned runs on three walks and 11 hits.

Kyle DeGrace and Jonathan Fernandez each hit their first home runs of the season for the Baycats. Teammate Jordan Castaldo had three hits and scored three runs. Castaldo's hits helped push his average to .434, good for the lead in the IBL batting race.

Lee Delfino provided most of Brantford's offence with a pair of home runs, his first and second of 2014. Delfino drove in all three Red Sox runs.

Barrie remains in first place with a record of 15-3 while Brantford is in sixth place at 7-11, eight games behind the Baycats. Brantford next plays Friday evening when they host the Kitchener Panthers. Barrie next sees action Saturday when they host the Hamilton Cardinals.

Kitchener 13 Hamilton 1

The Panthers went deep three times and Mike McGillivray had a solid start as Kitchener dominated the Hamilton Cardinals from start to finish Thursday night. McGillivray had one of his best outings of the season going six innings allowing only one run while striking out seven. He allowed four hits and turned it over to a bullpen that shut the door over the final three frames. Dustin Godden got roughed up on the mound for the Cardinals giving up nine runs in four innings on nine hits.

Kitchener's offence was led Rick Murray, Bryon Bell and Tanner Nivens who all launched home runs on Thursday. It was Murray's first home run of the season while Bell and Nivens each hit their third. Nivens had two hits, scored twice and drove in three runs.

Kitchener improves to 8-11 on the season and sits fifth in the standings. Hamilton falls to 6-11 and is currently seventh in the league. The Panthers play Friday when they visit Burlington to play the Bandits. Hamilton hosts the Toronto Maple Leafs Friday evening.

Guelph 7 Burlington 4

The Guelph Royals beat the Burlington Bandits Thursday night and sit three games back of league-leading Barrie. Guelph's Gavin Free took the win, managing to surrender only one earned run despite giving up ten hits and walking three. Free struck out two batters along the way. Joseph Fincher and Zack Pearson combined for a perfect final three innings while striking out three batters.

Jack Dennis took the loss for the Bandits going five innings and allowing six runs on five hits and two walks.

Burlington's Tyler Patzalek had three hits in five trips to the plate while driving in a run and scoring one. Teammate Robert Tavone had a pair of hits and also scored a run and drove in another.

Guelph's offence included multi-hit games from leadoff man Keith Kandel who sits second in the IBL batting race with a .420 batting average, and Josh Garton. Garton drove in two runs to increase his league-leading RBI total to 28. Patrick Coughlin hit his second home run of the year for the Royals.

The Royals improve to 13-7 during the 2014 campaign while the Bandits fall to 3-14. Guelph next plays Saturday afternoon when they host the Brantford Red Sox. Burlington plays Friday when they travel to London to take on the Majors.
