Hamilton 17 Guelph 7

The Hamilton Cardinals scored 17 runs on 14 hits and took advantage of five Guelph Royals errors to win Friday night. Brett van Pelt took the win, going five innings and striking out five. Van Pelt threw 53 of his 89 pitches for strikes and allowed only two runs and five hits. Guelph's Gavin Free took the loss lasting just 2 2/3 innings and surrendering seven runs on five walks and six hits.

The Cardinal's offence scored seven in the third and eight in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Kyle Gappa hit his third home run of the season, walked twice and drove in two runs. Dre Celestijn and Andris Rizquez each collected three hits for Hamilton. Guelph's attack was led by Keith Kandel who had three hits, scored four times and drove in a run. Kandel is the current leader in the IBL batting race with a .419 batting average.

Hamilton's record improves to 5-9. Guelph remains in second place in the IBL with a record of 11-6.

Hamilton next plays Saturday against the Barrie Baycats in St. Mary's, Ontario as part of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame induction festivities. Guelph next plays Saturday afternoon when they host the Burlington Bandits.

London 10 Kitchener 2

Deinys Suarez provided the London Majors with an outstanding start and earned the win in a 10-2 victory over the Kitchener Panthers. Suarez went six innings allowing one run while striking out five. Kitchener's Mike Schnurr took the loss giving up six runs in five innings.

The Major's Byron Reichstein had two hits and is hitting .396 on the season, good for second in the league. Reichstein also drove in three of London's ten runs. The Panther's Scott David, hitting .391 on the season and right on Reichstein's heels in the batting race had two hits, walked once and scored a run.

London's season record now stands at 9-7, 4.5 games out of first place. Kitchener has lost three in a row and has a record of 6-11. London next plays Saturday evening when they host the Brantford Red Sox. Kitchener next sees action Sunday when they host the Burlington Bandits.

Toronto 14 Brantford 2

Toronto's Marek Deska earned the win Friday night when the Maple Leafs beat the Brantford Red Sox 14-2. Deska went 6 2/3 innings, striking out six while allowing only two runs. Brantford's Nathan Forer, who took the loss, was hit early and often, giving up nine runs on eight hits and four walks in 3 1/3 innings.

Toronto's Glenn Jackson had two hits, including a triple and drove in three runs. His teammate Damon Topolie had two hits, scored twice drove in a run and walked once. Darryl Pui had a big night with four hits in six at-bats, scoring twice and driving in four runs. Brantford's Jeff Hunt had a hand in both Red Sox runs. Hunt had two hits and a walk, driving in a run and scoring another.

The Maple Leafs improve to 10-8 in 2014 while Brantford falls to 6-9. Toronto next plays Sunday when they host the Red Sox. Brantford visits London on Saturday to take on the Majors.
