Toronto takes down Hamilton. London defeats Burlington.
Toronto 10 Hamilton 8
The Toronto Maple Leafs banged out 12 hits and came back from an 8-4 deficit to defeat the Cardinals in Hamilton on Friday night.
Toronto's bullpen held the Cardinals in check after a eight runs were scored early on. Christian Bottle got the win in relief throwing a scoreless sixth. Justin Cicatello earned the save with three shutout innings of his own. Dan Procopio also delivered a solid relief effort for Toronto striking out six in 2 2/3 innings. Starter Adam Garner was rocked for eight runs in just over two innings but escaped with a no decision thanks to Toronto's bats getting hot just as Hamilton stopped scoring.
Dan Marra had three hits including a double, stole a base and drove in four runs for the Maple Leafs. His batting average currently stands at .371 on the season. Damon Topolie had two doubles and drove in two runs. Topolie is now hitting .387 during the 2014 campaign.
Tim Krawczyk took the loss for Hamilton in relief coming in after Brett van Pelt left after six innings. Van Pelt wasn't too sharp on the night but had left the game with the lead. Zack Sardellitti had a standout night offensively for Hamilton hitting his first home run of the season and collecting three hits and driving in four runs.
Toronto improves to 5-3 while Hamilton falls to 2-3.
Hamilton travels to Brantford on Sunday before meeting the Maple Leafs again on Sunday in Toronto.
London 6 Burlington 5
In a back and forth game, London prevailed with Taylor Carr taking the win in relief by a score of 6-5. Dave Wydeven, who has not allowed an earned run this year, took the save with a scoreless final frame.
Brandon Hiller took the loss for Burlington after allowing three runs in just one third of an inning. Eight pitchers took the mound for the two teams with London's Jonady Nunez having the longest outing, striking out eight and walking five in 6 1/3 innings.
Robert Tavone had three hits on the night for the Bandits, raising his average to .333 while scoring twice and driving in a run. Jim Martin had one hit in five trips to the plate but still stands second in the IBL batting race at .429. Paul Young collected three hits for the Majors including a triple. Like Tavone, Young is now hitting .333 for the year.
London's record now stands at 3-3 while Burlington falls to 2-4 having lost three in a row. Burlington visits Guelph to take on the Royals on Saturday. London plays a double header on Sunday in Barrie against the first place Baycats.
