Huntsville Channel Cats Keep on Rolling

The Huntsville Channel Cats experienced another perfect week in the South East Hockey League, winning all three of the games they played. The Channel Cats improved their record to 25 wins and only 9 losses good for 50 points in the SEHL standings. The ‚¬ËœCats begin play this week with a 20 point lead over the second place Winston-Salem T-Birds.

The Channel Cats play three games this week, including home games at the Von Braun Center on Thursday & Friday. The Knoxville Ice Bears, now only two points behind Winston-Salem also play three games this week, starting Thursday night at home against the T-Birds.

SEHL Player of the Week

Alex Alepin of the Knoxville Ice Bears is the South East Hockey League Player of the Week. The native of Montreal, Quebec is currently the top scoring defenseman in the SEHL with 9 goals & 11 assists for 20 points in 25 games. One of the Ice Bears team leaders, Alepin leads all SEHL defensemen in goals scored with his 9; penalty minutes with 145, and is plus 6 on the year.

SEHL Goaltender of the Week

Scott Graham of the Huntsville Channel Cats is the South East Hockey League Goaltender of the Week. Graham, from Shaker Heights, Ohio and Penn State University, was the difference in the Channel Cats 4-2 victory at Winston-Salem on Saturday (24th). Graham faced 45 T-Bird shots, stopping 43 of them in earning his sixth victory of the year without a defeat.

Other SEHL Top Performers

Huntsville ‚¬â„¢s Allan Carr scored four goals and added three assists last week. Carr scored a hat trick on 1/23 against Winston-Salem. Carr is the first player in the SEHL this season to hit the 30 goal mark. He now has 32 goals in 34 games and, overall, has 32 goals & 38 assists for 70 points.

Winston-Salem ‚¬â„¢s Peter Cermak scored a hat-trick on 1/23 vs. Huntsville. On the week, Cermak tallied three goals and two assists.

Winston-Salem ‚¬â„¢s Dave Vychodil earned four assists.

Huntsville ‚¬â„¢s James Patterson tallied 3 goals and 7 assists for 10 points in three games.

Huntsville ‚¬â„¢s Mike DeGurse

The Huntsville Channel Cats Mike DeGurse has been given a three game suspension, beginning on Thursday, January 29th, by the SEHL office. DeGurse earned both his fourth game misconduct and a match penalty in Huntsville ‚¬â„¢s victory at Winston-Salem on Saturday. He will miss all three of Huntsville ‚¬â„¢s games this week.

Winston-Salem ‚¬â„¢s Mike LaZazzera

T-Birds Head Coach Mike LaZazzera serves the second of his five game suspension against Knoxville this coming Thursday, January 29th in Knoxville.

Thursday, January 29th: The Huntsville Channel Cats present ‚¬Å“Hockey Night in Huntsville ‚¬Â, sponsored by Bill Heard Chevrolet, featuring $2.00 beers, $1.00 sodas, and $1.00 hot dogs.

Thursday, January 29th: The Knoxville Ice Bears present ‚¬Å“College & Carload Night ‚¬Â. Pile as many people as you can into one car for $20. Two-for-one beverage and food specials.

Saturday, January 31st: The Winston-Salem T-Birds present ‚¬Å“NASCAR Night ‚¬Â sponsored by the R.H. Barringer Distributing Company. The night will feature an autograph session with a number of drivers, including Kirk Shelmerdine from the Busch & ARCA racing series. He will also display his black #3 car. In addition Dale Earnhardt Jr. & Richard Petty memorabilia will be given away. It is also ‚¬Å“Second Harvest Food Bank Night ‚¬Â where fans are encouraged to bring three canned goods to the game.

Saturday, January 31st: The Knoxville Ice Bears present ‚¬Å“Pride in America Night ‚¬Â. The Ice Bears will be wearing special American jerseys that will be auctioned off and all service men & women (military personnel, firefighters, police, etc.) will receive a special ticket discount.
