Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON (Monday, July 13, 2015) - Houston Dynamo defender DaMarcus Beasley was named to the 2015 AT&T MLS All-Star Game Fan XI, it was announced today during pregame coverage of the United States-Panama CONCACAF Gold Cup match.
It is Beasley's fourth MLS All-Star selection, after he gained All-Star honors from 2001-2003.
The MLS All-Stars will face English club Tottenham Hotspur at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado on Wednesday, July 29. The match will air live at 8 p.m. CT on FOX Sports 1 and UniMás.
The process for selecting the Fan XI began with a panel of media members nominating a total of eight players from each club to create the fan ballot. Fans voted for 11 players via online ballot and through social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) through July 3. The 10 players with the highest combined fan votes from these methods were named to the All-Star Fan XI. The 11th player selected, forward Obafemi Martins (Seattle Sounders FC), was determined by the AT&T/EA SPORTS MLS All-Star 'More Than a Vote' Tournament.
In addition, English icons Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard have been selected by MLS Commissioner Don Garber to suit up for the MLS All-Stars.
Beasley has started all 19 games for the Dynamo this season and leads the club with 1,675 minutes played, 35 less than the maximum this season. The left back joined the Dynamo last July after starting four games at the 2014 FIFA World Cup to become the first American to play in four World Cups. Beasley, 33, has made 121 appearances for the U.S. (fifth most) and is tied for ninth in U.S. history with 17 goals and is ninth in assists with 13.
Beasley started 17 games with the U.S. men's national team in 2013, a career high, and was captain as the team won the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup, his fourth career Gold Cup title.
The 2015 AT&T MLS All-Star Gameday Roster will be announced on Saturday, July 18 and will include 20 players selected by All-Star head coach Pablo Mastroeni. While the players named to the Fan XI are not guaranteed a spot on the gameday roster, the outcome of fan voting is taken into consideration as the 22-man roster is decided.
